ARCTIC PHENOMENON
Greenland has a remarkable landscape. It is 96.8% covered by glacier or icecap. In 2004, I made two video works on phenomenon particular to the Arctic; I shot the footage in the Ammassalik area in East Greenland.
The piece ‘Moving Icecap’ challenges our perception of landscape as an inert entity.
‘Kayak dizziness’ or ‘nangiartarneq’ is a condition of spatial disorientation that can affect kayakers in calm seas, or in conditions where a visual reference point to the land is lost. A kayaker can suffer from sensory and perceptual deprivation resulting in a feeling of floating in space.
